Ezekiel Chapter 8 Idolatry in the temple
Verse 1-4
Ezekiel starts off explaining to us that in the 6th year, in the 6th month on the fifth day , he was sitting with the elders of Judah. The hand of the sovereign Lord came on him. Ezekiel said he looked and he saw a figure of a man, it appeared to be fire from the waist down, and up his appearance was glowing like metal. Ezekiel said that the figure stretched out his hand and took him (Ezekiel) by the hair. He says, the spirit lifted him up between the heavens, and Earth and in visions of God he took him to Jerusalem. The spirit took him to the entrance of the north gate of the inner court, where the idol that provokes to jealousy stood. and there before him (Ezekiel) was the glory of the God of Israel. Ezekiel says that he was just the same as in his vision.
I am learning when God wants you, he calls you, and puts you right in front of what he wants of you. I could only Imagine being so upright and committed to your walk with God that he shows himself. How many of you are waiting for that moment? I know I am.
verse 5-11
Ezekiel says the Lord says to him. “Son of man , look toward the north.” Ezekiel says he looked and he saw the idol of jealousy in the entrance of the gate. He says that the Lord said to him “Son of man do you see what they are doing here – the utterly detestable things the house of Israel is doing here, things that will drive me far from my sanctuary? but you will see things that are even more detestable”
Then the Lord brought him to the entrance to the court. Ezekiel says he say a hole in the wall, and the Lord told him to dig in the wall and he dug into the wall in saw a doorway there. The Lord told Ezekiel to go into the door and see the wicked and detestable things that they are doing. Ezekiel says he went in and say all kinds of crawling things and detestable animals all the idols of the house of Israel. In front of the idols were all the elders of Israel, and Jaazaniah son of shaphan was standing among them. Each had a censer in his hand, and a fragrant cloud of incense was rising.
My God, the Lord showed Ezekiel what was going on. Before the Lord sends us to do something he will show us. There are no surprise when you are walking with the Lord. he will warn you of the dangers, the troubles, and the blessing if you build your relationship and allow yourself to live in the spirit and not the flesh. Our flesh will tell us many things that are not of God and it will take away what God gives us organically.
verse 12-15
The Lord said to Ezekiel “Have you seen what the elders of Israel are doing in the darkness, Each at the shrine of his own idol? ‘They say the Lord does not see us; the Lord has forsaken the land.'” the Lord says to Ezekiel “You will see them doing things even more detestable.” Ezekiel says then the Lord brought him to the entrance to the north gate of the house of the Lord, and he saw the women sitting there, mourning for Tammuz. the Lord said to Ezekiel ” Do you see this son of man? You will see things even more detestable than this.”
The Lord showed Ezekiel what the people of Israel was doing. They were stating that the Lord wasn’t there for them. We sometimes do that; when we are worrying about getting more money, and want the new car or whatever new thing that comes out. We start getting anxious about how to get it. We are doing just as the people of Israel; Idolizing things, and money. I’m not saying that you can’t want for things, I’m saying you should want for God more than you want for things.
verse 16-18
The Lord then brought Ezekiel to the inner court of the house of the Lord, and their at the entrance to the temple, between the portico and the altar were about 25 men. With there backs toward the temple and there faces toward the east, they were bowing down to the son of the east. The Lord said to Ezekiel ” Have you seen this Son of man? Is it trivial matter for the house of Judah to do the detestable things they are doing here? Must they also fill the Land with violence and continually provoke me to anger? Look at them putting the branch to their nose! Therefore I will deal with them in anger; I will not look on them with pity or spare them. Although they shout in my ears, I will not listen to them.”
We can’t sit on the fence and think it will not anger God. we can’t move toward the things in this land and worship the things that we have in our households and think God is going to be okay. You may ask, what we can’t have nice things? Yes ! you can have nice things but don’t base the thread of who you are on what you have. The thread of who you are should be based on who you serve! God say’s this is the time for us to be faithful to our relationships with him, now is the time to release the spirit with in, and serve in our purpose. best put by the Jones family he wants it all
