Becoming Light: Genesis Chapter 19; Sodom is Destroyed

I hope you had a great week and enjoying your hump day.

So I was super busy trying to play catch up that I didn’t get a chance to record the podcast or write this blog.

Today I managed to record in my car and I am writing this blog at my desk looking like I’m doing important company work. Father forgive me. Lol

This episode was another level of knowledge more like a dark knowledge. Last week we ended off with Abraham asking God if he would spare the people of Sodom I’d he found a certain amount of righteous people. God said he would.

Now remember while Abraham was speaking to God the angels that was with God went ahead to Sodom.

This chapter starts off when the angels arrived lot met them at the gate. He right away offered them a place to rest their heads until morning. The angels refused but lot insisted.

Lot prepared a feast for the angels with wine. The word says the men young and old surrounded lots house to get to the men.

Lot went out side and tried to reason with the men, he tried to convince them to do what they wanted to his daughters but leave the men alone.

The men of Sodom in turned reminded lot that he was there temporarily. He too was a visitor. The men then proceeded to try to get through lot to the door. The word says the Angels pulled lot in and made all the men blind.

The Angels told Lot to let his people (his family) know That God was about to destroy Sodom so they need to get out. Lot told his son in laws but they didn’t believe him, they thought he was joking.

The next morning the Angels told Lot he had to leave. The word says Lot took his time lingering around. The Angels took Lots hand his wife’s hand and his daughters hand and took them out the city. Told them to keep going so they aren’t effected.

God proceeded to destroy Sodom with fire from the sky. The word tells us lots wife looked back in disobedience and turned into a Pilar of salt.

Lot and his Daughters got to Zoar where Lot requested to go but lot didn’t feel safe so he went in a Cave with his two daughters.

The daughters living alone with their father noticed that he was getting old and there wasn’t any men around for them. They decided to get their father drunk and lay with him.

The oldest daughter conceived a son Moab (from father) and the second daughter conceived a son Ben Ammi (son of my people.

The word says that Moab will be the father of the moabites and Ben the father of the Ammonites.

Now that I have gotten that out, what y’all think about that? God is destroying a sinful town in the beginning, he spares Lot and lots family because of his relationship with Abraham. If you don’t know what that is, that’s everything attached to me wins.

I’m sure we also see that God destroyed Sodom due to their sinful nature and out of Sodom came Lots wife who looked back and daughters who felt the need to take things into there own hands and conceived with there father.

Again we learn it’s when we take things into our own hands we go and do things we have no business doing .

I believe Lots daughters must have thought every where had burned. That they were the only ones alive.

This is the first time I really paid attention to this detail and it has red flagged the Moabites and the Ammonites for further study. What kind of people are they.

Genesis Chapter 16- Sarai and Hagar

Genesis Chapter 16

Verse 1-6

We learn in these chapters that Sarai Abrams’s wife had gotten to the point of believing that God did not mean she was going to conceive. Sarai felt she needed a backup plan. Sarai told her husband to go and lay with her Egyptian maid Hagar. The word says Sarai gave Hagar to her husband as a second wife.

The word says that Abram did what his wife told him and lay with Hagar and conceived. When Hagar conceived, she started to look down on Sarai. As if she was less than because she couldn’t give her husband a child.

Sarai was upset and went to Abram and told him to take care of it. Abram did not want to be in the middle of the women’s quarrel. He told Sarai that Hagar was her maid she should deal with Hagar herself. Sarai responded to Abram by saying may the wrong done to me be upon you. May the Lord judge between you and me. The word says that Sarai treated Hagar harshly and humiliated her until Hagar fled.

One of the things that I noticed in these verses was that there was another time that a woman decided to tell her husband something different than what God said. If you can remember, Eve did the same thing which led to the fall. 

 God told Abram what he would give him. Sarai started assuming; God didn’t mean her. Some of us are like this, thinking that we aren’t worthy, or ” The blessing; must not have been for me. 

In this way of thinking, this is what happens. Sarai got her feelings hurt. She was now in the mindset of wanting to hurt Hagar. When I looked at it this way, I wondered if Hagar even treated her like that or was it the spirit of depression, offense, and jealousy attacking her.

This way of thinking has caused a lot of us to lose our blessing or better yet delay our blessings, I say this because what God has for you will always be yours, you just have to stay focused and walk toward it even in the storm; especially when you cant even see your next step toward it. it’s always going to be yours.

Sarai moving on her own and not consulting God had her walking in hate and ill intent, taking over the Fathers plan, can put us off track of our light. We can easily miss step and walk in unrighteousness. the fall will always happen when we walk with out consulting the Almighty Creator.

Verse 7 – 16

When Hagar ran off the word says an Angel of God came and called her by name and asked her; where was she going? she responded by telling him that she was running from her mistress. The Angel of the Lord told her to go back to her Sarai and humble herself to the Authority of Sarai. The angel of the Lord told her ” I will greatly multiply your descendants that they will be too many to count. The Angel of the Lord spoke a blessing into Hagar life

‘ Genesis 16:11-12 ‘The Angel of the Lord continued, “Behold, you are with child, And you will bear a son; And you shall name him Ishmael (God hears), Because the Lord has heard and paid attention to your persecution (suffering). He (Ishmael) will be a wild donkey of a man; His hand will be against every man [continually fighting] And every man’s hand against him; And he will dwell in defiance of all his brothers.”

The word says that she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her El Roi – God never sleeps, He sees, He is aware, He is the great omnipresent God. She was in awe that she was even alive after seeing Him. Because of this the well was called Beer-lahai – roi (The well of the living one who sees.

This chapter ends by letting us know that Hagar gave birth to a son and Abram named the son Ishmael. Abram was 86 when Ishmael was born.

I feel Hagar’s hurt and pain, as I was preparing my conclusion I remembered that Hagar is an Egyptian, she came from the time when Abram took his family to Egypt and Pharaoh gave Abram servants and live stock for Sarah. This is when Abram lied and said his wife was his sister because she was so beautiful.

Hagar was basically sold to this family and then demanded to sleep with her mistresses husband to conceive, and when her mistress was in her feelings she treated her horrible. But God met her at the well. Told her to go home, blessed her with a word of a multiple linage more descendants than she could count.

We don’t know everyone’s story but lets remember to expect God to bless them too. If you only knew Sarai’s story you would be calling Hagar the home wrecker and all kinds of things. But she was not she was just being obedient to her mistress.

As light lets remember not to judge people. Every moment is apart of God’s purpose and will. The conception of Ishmael made Abrams blessings a multiplication of 2.
